Summer is here friends! And, I for one, am enjoying the heat, even if it comes with high humidity here in Southern Missouri! While I am not sewing as much as normal, I am still working through stitching up some more intricate woven dresses, like the Pattern Scout Vivi Dress, I just finished a few weekends back. It actually inspired the idea for a casual summer sew-a-long or sewing challenge of sorts! I just wanted a fun way to connect this summer through sewing, and to share our summer goals and sewing projects!
The idea behind the "Sun's Out Sundresses On" Sewing Challenge is to make dresses suitable for summer! While there may be some debate on what defines a sundress, we are going to keep this concept real open and generalize it to any dress that is sleeveless or short sleeved. We all have our own personal preferences and we want to make sure we include as many sewists as possible in this challenge!
As we have already established, everything is more fun in company! This is why we are partnering with our fabric shop friends, Bethany of Fluid + Drape, Karleen of Sewing Studio, and Candace of Fab Rick's Fabrics to co-host this challenge!
Participating is quite simple. The challenge will run now through August 31st. All you need to do to participate is
- Make a dress (sleeveless or short sleeve), and
- Share to Instagram taking care to include the hashtag #sunsoutsundresseson
We are also adding a fun new element to this sewing challenge including a Discord chat group! We would love for you to join us and to share your project plans, mull over fabric options or ask for pattern suggestions!
