There are so many beautiful stretch laces in the world, how do you choose the right pattern? We are rounding up all the best sewing patterns for lace, AND sorting them according to width. Some stretch laces are narrow, and some are available in wide yardage. Read our pattern recommendations and find the right one for your favorite lace.
Narrow Elastic Stretch Lace
If your stretch lace is a small width, it is best suited as a substitute for regular elastic. Use it for leg elastic on underwear, cup elastic on bras, or even as bra strapping if it is durable enough. It can also be used decoratively such as on the Seamwork Geneva Undies:
1"-3" Stretch Lace
Slightly larger than you would use as regular elastic, 1"-3" elastic laces can be tricky to utilize. They are best suited for a waistband on underwear, or possibly as an underband of a low-support bra. In some cases you could use it as decorative trim, or as a small inset to a larger piece. Use these patterns for your narrow stretch elastics:

Widening our elastic also widens our pattern choices. Widths of 4"-8" give options such as thong underwear or even cup pieces on soft bras, depending on size. Try these elastics with the following patterns:

Stretch laces over 8" wide open up many pattern opportunities. These laces can be used for underwear with more coverage, for bra cups on soft or more structured bras, and even on loungewear pieces.

Stretch Lace Yardage
If you have stashed some lovely stretch lace yardage, make the most of it! Most traditional underwear and bra patterns can be cut from stretch lace yardage, even full coverage options. But consider other ideas such as nightgowns, camis, or even t-shirts!
