"I think making athletic-wear is intimidating to a lot of sewists— but it isn’t as hard as it … seams… (see what I did there?)
This deadstock athletic fabric feels comfortably lightweight. It is a nylon blend that wicks and moves comfortably with you. The resulting garments supply coverage without weight and are super nice to yoga in (I’ve worn it several times for my daily Ashtanga practice since completing the set). The stripes are also just plain cheerful. This combo is definitely the perfect pick-me-up!
I used wooly nylon in my serger & coverstitch loopers in order to keep things soft next to the skin, and graded between sizes to get a fit that means I’m not constantly making clothing adjustment while I’m trying to practice— which is such a game changer!
Patterns used are both from 5 out of 4– the Alpha bra (which goes to a 60” bust) and the FREE ninja pants. I love this free pattern because it has length and waist options, a gusset for movement and includes sizes up to a 61” hip. It has everything you need in a pair of workout leggings. AND they come together characteristically quickly."

"And here it is, my new favorite athletic fabric! I love athletic fabrics that are cool to the touch and feel good on my skin. This deadstock does just that! There are so many eye catching stripes that made the choice hard but this neon lime was screaming at me. I took full advantage of using the stripes horizontally and vertically to create a stand out look. I love the drape of this fabric and the stretch gives this deadstock an abundance of potential. I chose the Colby Bralette and Piper Pants, both from Petite Stitchery. Out of all the ideas I’m glad I chose this outfit! I plan on buying more colors to fulfill my other ideas as well!
If you’ve been waiting to make your own athletic-wear, this is your sign! Get some fab fabric and get moving!"

"I’m not really athletic at all but one sport that I do enjoy is tennis. So when I first saw this fabulous striped athletic knit, I knew immediately it would be perfect for a skirt to wear on the courts! I used the Rally Skirt from Greenstyle Creations and cut the fabric across the grain to create a cool chevron design along the side seams. For my tank, I followed the grain for this Kira Tank from Sonia Estep Designs. Since this fabric has similar vertical and horizontal stretch, it worked great both ways. It makes the options for this fabric endless! Plus, it’s so cool against the skin. It would make a fabulous maxi dress…my next project!"

"With two yards of Thin Black and Grey Gradient athletic, I knew I could squeeze out a circle skirt dress. George and Ginger’s Mix it Up with asymmetrical neckline and open back/short sleeves is exquisite. I fussy cut for the gorgeous gradient, and I’m super pleased with the results. This athletic is a bit slippery, so I had to cut carefully and baste a lot. Sewing around the neckline, I had to go slow and steady – it’s worth it for a smooth bodice. I topstitched with a decorative stretch zigzag, and love it. I am not about hemming circle skirts, so I opted for a lettuce/wavy hem. It feels so airy without the added bulk. The open back was very easy to achieve, and the little ties are delicate and cute. I love this print, and I would definitely buy more of this for a dozen other projects!"

"As soon as I saw this fabric, I knew it would make the perfect bodycon dress! The colors are so gorgeous and vibrant and I'm personally in love with the ombre effect! Even though this is an athletic fabric, it is a great weight for this style of dress! I made a Sonia Estep Designs Marilyn tank dress!"

"I had the opportunity to sew a strike of this newly released athletic and at first I chose the rainbow of colors but then I remembered that most of my wardrobe is black and chose a monochromatic stripe instead. My favorite part of this fabric is it's weight. If feels fluid but still provides amazing structure! I would have been just as happy with a dress or skirt as I am with leggings and a top. <3
I chose Greenstyle's Elevate Crop and Spark Tights. (My two favorite patterns ever!) and I've worn this as an outfit 3x and separately more than a few times. I love leggings for travel and even wore the top on a flight home. So comfy! Looking forward to a Rally Skirt and Bomdia dress with some more colorful versions of this fabric next."
