Jacquard Knits Sewing Inspiration | Latest Fabric Release

With the release of a beautiful new range of Jacquard Knits, we wanted to take a moment to highlight this fabric and share a little more about its unique construction and what it's best used for.

By definition, Jacquard is a fabric that utilizes a unique construction technique that creates a pattern in the fabric by utilizing different thread colors. This results in floats of thread being carried along the back side in a single fabric. Or it can be a double fabric that hides these floats and makes for an equally smooth fabric on the wrong side as well. Jacquard fabrics are common in the woven fabric world, but they can also be created in knit fabrics too. The Jacquard Knits we carry are double sided fabrics, so there are no loose floats on the wrong side of these fabrics.

We especially love this fabric line because it has a more professional appeal with out sacrificing comfort. Garments made from this fabric can be suitable for office wear and as a way to elevate even the most casual outfits. We know it can be hard to imagine fabric in garment form, so we recruited the help of our sewist team to provide some inspiration for you all.

Pattern | Love Notions Tessa Sheath Dress
Colorway | Toffee & Beige Gingham Jacquard Knit

"I am such a sucker for gingham and was so excited to see colors and a fabric base suitable for Fall and Winter. This knit jacquard has a vintage and classic vibe to it and what is more classic than a sheath dress? I made the Tessa Sheath from Love Notions in a midi length and added a slim belt just to add definition to my waist. I feel like I could step back in time! This toffee colorway has copper tones that would pair well with ivory, black or even a dark navy! With great stretch and recovery, this fabric would be ideal for slacks, cardigans, jackets or dresses. The options are endless!"

Pattern | Styla Patterns Laconia Skirt

Colorway | Rust & Beige Gingham Jacquard Knit

" I'm still working on building the perfect work wardrobe and this jacquard knit is the perfect balance of professional and comfort. I sewed Lanconia skirt from Styla Patterns and chose the above the knee length with a side slit and high waistband. My favorite part of this fabric is its weight (true mid). I was worried that it wouldn't hold a press like some jacquard I've sewn in the past but with a medium setting it held a press perfect! This will be in regular rotation for me for work - looks professional, doesn't wrinkle, and I can wear it all day with comfort."

I used the black & brown colorway to make the Made for Mermaids Winnie pants & managed to make a crop version of the Willow top from Wonderful Sews to pair with it. Pattern | George & Ginger Campfire Pant

Colorway | Black & Yellow Gingham Jacquard Knit

" I am in love with this new jacquard! This print screams cooler weather and classy. I havent worked with a lot of jacquard but I am not new to structured knits. This mustard and black gingham combo gave me a lot of ideas and one of them is wide legged pants! I used the George & Ginger Campfire pants to give me some pants with some drama and beauty. This fabric has such a great feel and stretch which makes it ideal for so many items! This jacquard was a breeze to sew with as well. I can see myself making a knit blazer to go with these pants but would love a fitted dress, cardigan, and bells!"

Pattern | Sonia Estep Designs Willow
Colorway | Black & Beige Gingham Jacquard Knit

"This gingham jacquard knit is a great staple fabric for any wardrobe! It is a great weight that can be used for a wide variety of garments. I used the black/beige colorway to make a Sonia Estep Designs Willow cardigan for a classic style with the slightly modern detail of the high-low split hem. I opted for inseam pockets over patch pockets to keep the look fairly simple and streamlined. This is a great piece to complete many different outfit styles - casual or dressy!"

Pattern | Ellie & Mac Duchess Jacket
Colourway | Mocha & Beige Gingham Jacquard Knit

" Classy, classy, classy! Surge Fabrics jacquard in this gingham is absolutely wonderful! It has a beautiful texture, that makes it fun to play with. As soon as I saw this I knew right away this needed to be an Ellie and Mac Duchess jacket! With jacquard being a double knit, I chose not to line it, but I also added a hood! The gingham is very versatile and can be worn with about anything! This combination of elegant fabric and this pattern is a head turner and I feel absolutely amazing!"

Pattern | Deer & Doe Sirocco Jumpsuit
Colorway | Black & Ivory Gingham Jacquard Knit

"As I get older, my tastes in what I want to wear is greatly influenced by how I want to present myself. I want to appear put together and a little mature, but never in an 'aged' kind of way. Timeless. That might look a little different from person to person, but for me the clean simple lines of the Deer & Doe Sirocco Jumpsuit was perfect when accompanied by the ever chic black and ivory gingham. My only modification to the pattern as designed, was to make the pant a wide leg as I feel like that is more flattering on my body type and more true to my personal style. This outfit is everything I hoped it would be. Easy to wear, easy to style, and most importantly comfortable to wear!"
