    5 Free Hat Patterns!

With gift sewing in full swing, we are featuring 5 different hat patterns for #freepatternfriday. We thought this would help you decide which hat pattern you should be sewing for some quick gifts! These are very popular hat patterns that various designers offer their members/customers for FREE! The patterns we selected, come in a full size range from children to adult and have clear instructions on how to sew them together. Plus, we thought these were the best patterns to add our Pom-Poms to!

We often see people asking which hat pattern is the "best", and I have asked this myself.  But this is completely relative to personal style preferences.  I can say, that all of these patterns were easy to sew and were true to size.  I selected the size based on my head circumference (22") and all of them fit as intended. Onto all the pictures, so you can decide which is your favorite fit style!

Here is Toby K Patterns Dinkytown Hat pattern.  There are 2 separate patterns for the children and adult sizes, but both are free with a CODE that can be found in the main announcement in their Facebook Group.  For this hat, I used the Navy Brushed Sweater Knit and the Imperial Blue Pom-Pom. This pattern is my personal favorite.  It is obviously cute with a pom-pom, which is a must for me and the design is clever.  The way the hat is constructed, you end up with a "faux" cuff on one side of the hat and a solid on the other. This means you can have 2 completely different hats in one! Just be sure to use coordinating fabrics for the lining and main.

Next is Made For Mermaids Banded Beanie.  It is a free download right on their website with no code needed.  I used our new Speckled Black Soft Brushed Sweater Knit for this one and boy is it soft!! Also, it's worth noting that with the banded style, you do not need to line the hat, but if you are using sweater knit or something lighter in weight, you might want to.  I lined this one with the same fabric. This is just a nice basic fitted beanie with no slouch.

Here we have Petite Stitchery & Co Wintergreen Slouchy Beanie. This pattern has 3 different "slouch" lengths, which could produce a pretty slouchy hat!  I used the original cut line for no additional slouch. The brim can be folded up and you can achieve another look if you use different fabrics for the lining and main.  For consistency and full fit comparison, I have not folded the brim for photos. I used our new Teal/Black Buffalo Plaid Brushed Sweater Knit, and I just love the look!

Here is Patterns For Pirates Slouchy Beanie in our Burgundy Brushed Sweater Knit and topped with one of our cute White Pom-Poms. As with the M4M pattern, you do not have to line this style, but I opted to for extra warmth.  If I make this one again, I think I will make it reversible for some extra pizazz!

Lastly is Apple Tree Patterns Reversible Slouchy Beanie. To receive this pattern, you need to sign up for their Newsletter.  I really like this one too and that its reversible. I used our Speckled Grey Soft Brushed Sweater Knit for this one and I will likely add a Red Velvet Pom-Pom for a splash of color and versatility.  I will add snaps to both sides so I can use the pom on the Red Plaid Brushed Sweater Knit I have hiding on the inside as the lining.

Well there is it! A little round-up of all 5 free hat patterns provided by some wonderful PDF designers! If we missed a free hat pattern that comes in an array of sizes, please let us know so we can include it at a later date! Oh and if you have decided which one you plan to make thanks to this post, please let us know in the comments! We would love to hear from you!! <3

I am a sucker for Toby K’s beanie but I LOVE seeing the differences. I’ve wondered about this before. Thanks!
